The outdoor wedding of Hallee Deutchman (28 and an engineer) and Brian Pivar (29 and a financial analyst) brought black tie to the desert. “I am very straitlaced and my husband is fun and goofy, so our wedding was a combination of opposites,” Hallee says. “I loved the idea of black tie outside and the juxtaposition of the Wild West and formal.” Imoni Events helped the couple create a modern, black-and-white atmosphere around the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North in Scottsdale, Arizona. “Since we were building a new life together in Phoenix, Arizona, we wanted to get married in an area that introduced our family and friends to our new home,” Hallee says. “Cactuses decorate the property, which still manages to be chic through the hard Western exterior.” Hallee’s wedding dress embodied her modern style with a whimsical touch: The fitted silk bodice with a cummerbund and flowy tulle skirt were perfect yet sophisticated for her outdoor wedding too. “Between my princess ball gown and my sparkly flats, several people—including my husband during our first look—told me I looked like Cinderella,” the bride says. Even the desserts matched the theme: The wedding cake, covered in solid-gold fondant with a single white sugar flower, captured the formal essence of the day, but when the late-night snacks (such as donuts and peanut butter cups) came out, the party let loose. The couple’s favorite part? “Brian and I had dreamed that our families would interact at the resort during the weekend,” Hallee says. “My husband was so happy to report that he had found relatives from both sides swimming in the pool and enjoying margaritas. Mission accomplished!” See the stunning details captured by Eyes 2 See Photography, below.

Hallee was inspired by an Oscar Wilde saying: “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” “As a girl with a PhD who loves to shop, I wanted our wedding to reflect the same ideals,” the bride says. Her black-and-white wedding invitations were inspired by the elegance of parents’ wedding invitations, and the gold envelope added a modern twist.
Hallee’s Amsale wedding dress was perfect for her. “My mom had the idea of a fairy princess theme, and I like more streamlined and modern looks,” the bride says. The wedding dress embodied both ideas; the bodice featured stiff silk and clean lines, and the bottom layers of light tulle flowed and allowed for comfort in the outdoor Arizona wedding.

“My favorite flowers are roses and peonies, and we usually have fresh roses sitting on our dining-room table,” Hallee says. The couple’s florist, the Flower Studio, suggested using English garden roses, which were in season. Hallee carried an ivory bouquet of these roses with a few of her sorority flowers.

Elegant round, ivory arrangements of garden roses and hydrangeas in tall glass vases framed the entrance to the aisle. Later, these flowers decorated the dining tables at the reception.

The live band, Sapphire Sky, kicked up the party and had guests dancing the night away. The inside of the reception hall was decorated with more of a party feel in mind, with gold sequined tablecloths and dramatic lighting.
The wedding cake, displayed underneath the white, linen-draped chuppah where Hallee and Brian exchanged their vows, was the focal point of the reception. Four round tiers covered in solid-gold fondant with a single white-sugar flower accent summed up the modern, elegant theme.
The couple provided late-night snacks for their guests, including their favorite sweets: miniature donuts, gold-dusted chocolate macarons and peanut-butter cups.
