A Farm Wedding at a Private Residence in Nashville, Georgia

With wildflowers galore and vibrant green orchards of pecan trees, romance came naturally to the farm wedding of Emily Dorsey Drew (26 and a nurse) and Sam Drew (25 and an accountant). During the spring on Emily’s family farm, Dorsey Farms in Nashville, Georgia, “the red clover that my father plants between the pecan trees becomes the brightest red and the leaves on the pecan trees are bright green. My mama and I thought this would be the perfect time of year to get married and have the reception outside down by our pond,” the bride says. This wedding was full of elements from the farm. The bride’s uncle, who created the flower arrangements, used red clover and Spanish moss from the live oak trees in the bouquets, boutonnieres and centerpieces. Chicken feeders from the 1920s filled with tomato and pepper plants served as decor and were later planted in the family garden. Even the dinner menu was locally sourced; family friends prepared pastured pork straight from the farm. As wedding favors, the couple gave their guests satchels of homegrown pecans. “Nan Myers, owner of Firefly in Thomasville, Georgia, was the creative mind who brought our vision alive,” the bride says. At the end of the night, Emily and Sam rode away in a tractor with a “just married” sign. The whole wedding had added sentimental value for the bride, who had always known she wanted to have her wedding on her family’s farm. “I chose to get married at home because I wanted to share my beautiful home, where I have so many warm memories, with all our guests,” Emily says.
