A Dutch Masters Paintings-Inspired Wedding at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri
Inspired by the paintings of the Dutch Masters, Meg Gatchell (30 and works in nonprofit fundraising) and Sean McLaughlin (32 and a lawyer) decorated their romantic day in pale blue, navy, gold, beige, copper and cream. In honor of their wedding being all about art, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, was the perfect location. “We both love history and art and could not think of a more romantic spot than the Nelson,” Meg says. Fully committed to their still life painting-inspired theme, the couple even incorporated fresh fruit (like cantaloupe, apples and oranges!) into the lush floral arrangements gorgeously created by Trapp and Company. “We had real fruit, lots of deep lighting and the colors were that of the famous painting ‘The Girl With the Pearl Earring,’” Meg says. “We wanted a very old romantic feel.” Kindra Browne from Simple Elegance worked with Meg and Sean to bring their vision to life, and Leigh Miller Photography beautifully captured all the details of the day. One of our favorite parts was Meg’s glamorous look in her Naeem Khan couture gown, sparkly jacket and loose updo by Bespoke Salon. “I wanted something unique, not cookie-cutter,” Meg says. “I wanted to stand out and be the sparkle of the night. I wanted to have a princess look for my hair, swept off my face with a sparkly headband like Princess Kate would wear." The night was perfectly completed with a delicious three-tier gold-painted white fondant cake. On the inside, it was white cake with American frosting and lemon cake with cream cheese frosting, and the outside was topped with fresh magnolia and blush roses. “It was fabulous,” Meg says. “We loved working with Nancy!”
