A DIY Vintage Wedding at the Desert Plantation, LLC in Woodville, Mississippi

Andrea Barrios (23 and a Spanish teacher) and Daniel Bergeron (23 and a biological engineer) met at church when they were 12-years-old and spent the next decade together before Daniel proposed. He devised a scavenger hunt during a trip to Colorado that ended with him down on one knee. “I was so overjoyed, I threw myself on him and didn't even look at the ring,” says Andrea. In just eleven months, the couple planned a vintage wedding in Woodville, Mississippi. “We wanted our day to look ethereal, to feel as though you were stepping into a fairytale with the golden sun peaking through beautiful old oaks and wild flowers around,” says Andrea. With this vision in mind, the couple chose the Desert Plantation to house their outdoor ceremony and reception. Accents made by the bride in shades of gold, pink, emerald, sea foam green and neutral tones were used throughout the grounds. The couple’s families were also involved in creating the decor. Daniel’s mother arranged their bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. “I'm still in love with my bouquet,” says Andrea. She carried an arrangement of fabric ranunculus and roses in her processional. The head of the ceremony aisle was accented with a backdrop of three vintage wooden doors, a gold chandelier and floral garland. After the couple said “I do,” the celebration continued with an outdoor reception and dinner. Each table’s centerpiece included fabric flowers in painted vases, vintage books and gold frames made by Andrea and her mother. The reception also incorporated multiple Venezuelan traditions and foods such as homemade Venezuelan Christmas bread and Venezuelan chocolates. “I think our favorite part though, was when we had a Venezuelan tradition of La Hora Loca, the crazy hour, which is when we put loud Hispanic music on, had some props people put on and danced to some Hispanic music,” says Andrea. “It was a blast seeing all our Hispanic and American guests get into it!”
