A DIY, Vintage Wedding at Indian Springs Metropark in White Lake, Michigan
Nicholas Jolokai (29 and a business owner) and Christina Jolokai (26 and a competitive dancer) met while attending college at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. After being friends for a couple of years, Nick and Chrissy grew closer. In February of 2013, Nick took Chrissy to a Red Wings hockey game. After the first quarter, Nick directed Chrissy to look at the big screen over the ice, which read, "Chrissy Kuno, will you marry me? Love, Nick." After Chrissy had read it over, she saw Nick holding out her ring. They had their wedding at the Indian Springs Metropark because of its natural, simplistic beauty. Their reception was at the Environmental Discovery Center, where floor-to-ceiling windows and wood walls provided an earthy feel. Chrissy and Nick's color palette was mint, coral and gold. "I wanted it to be soft, vintage, feminine, and springy," Chrissy said. Groomsmen wore khaki suits while bridesmaid wore mint, vintage-style dresses. Many of the wedding's elements were personal to Chrissy and Nick. They had a tree planting ceremony in which they both combined dirt from their parents' homes to symbolize their new union. "It was very meaningful and the plant is still growing bigger and stronger," Chrissy shared. Much of the reception decor was DIY. Chrissy's mother wrote out the advice cards in calligraphy on brown package tags. Chrissy made a basket of flip flops for guests to wear while dancing. Both Chrissy and Nick had lost loved ones in their lives, so they decided to remember them by reserving a special table and decorating it with their photos. From the picturesque ceremony to the relaxed reception, Dan and Chrissy's intimate wedding was the wedding of their dreams.
