A DIY, Vintage Wedding at a Private Residence in Albert, Kansas

Veronica Baus (24 and a clinical therapist) and Daniel Kimple (27 and a physician) decided to get married in Veronica’s hometown in Albert, Kansas, for its quaint, rustic, hometown feel. Wanting their wedding to be super personalized and ultra local, they incorporated their Kansas farmer roots into the decor. After their intimate ceremony at a local country church, Peace Lutheran Church, guests threw wheat that Veronica’s father grew on his farm. They had their reception in a tent on Main Street, which was decorated with Veronica’s great grandfather’s farm plows! Since Veronica’s father is such a skilled craftsman, he created a lot of decor for the day including the chandeliers at the reception, the hand carved wooden bird cake topper and the wooden window frames hanging from the trees outside. Veronica’s mother scoured local antique stow and thrift shops to find mismatched china for the 250 guests including adorable teacups. Veronica’s grandmother not only made the five-tier white buttercream wedding cake (decorated with Swiss dots to match Veronica’s wedding dress), but she also made an assortment of homemade pies for dessert. Veronica’s aunt handmade the gorgeous gold bridesmaid dresses and the white flower girl dresses with green and gold belts to match the wedding party. Veronica and Daniel used a timeless ivory, black and gold color palette with pops of pastels throughout. For dinner, they incorporated a staple food from Veronica’s ancestors: sauerkraut. Yum? "It was a fun treat for guests to try," Veronica says.
