A DIY Stable Wedding at The Oaks of Lake City Equestrian Center in Lake City, Florida
James (Jamie) Hurst (25 and in the United States Air Force) popped the question to Lindsey Bestland (24 and a registered nurse) eight years after they met in a high school biology class. Lindsey was visiting Jamie in San Antonio when he asked a passerby to take their picture and got down on one knee. “I'm not actually sure what was said, but there was definitely a ‘Will you marry me?’ and my answer might have been ‘duh,’” says Lindsey. They spent the next ten months planning an outdoor wedding with vintage accents. The Oaks of Lake City Equestrian Center became their venue for its natural scenery. "We aren't necessarily what you would consider to be country people, but we knew that there were so many beautiful things we would be able to do here," says Lindsey. Her and Jamie decorated the space in shades of dusty rose, navy and gray. “I wanted a little color, as we were getting married in February, but not something that would clash,” she says. Adding a personal and memorable touch to the celebration, the couple enlisted family to create their centerpieces and accents. “Jamie and I love to travel, so I used that as a starting point for the decor,” says Lindsey. The bride and her sisters went to various stores during the engagement to find books, globes, airplanes and other accents for the reception. Her oldest sister made the couple's flower arrangements the day of the wedding. Even Lindsey’s grandmother helped by making the couple’s ribbon backdrop over their entrance. “Our wedding was very close to my heart as so much of it was do-it-yourself,” says Lindsey. "I spent countless hours with my family to create all of the special touches." The couple ended their celebration with a night of dinner and dancing, surrounded by the people who helped to make the wedding possible.
