A DIY Poconos Camp Wedding in Canadensis, Pennsylvania
Whitney Harris (34 and a jeweler) and Brian Rumble (40 and a creative strategist and student) collect experiences. Not only did the two get to know each other while training for a half marathon, but Brian proposed on a glacier lagoon in Iceland. From there, Whitney and Brian planned their greatest experience yet: their wedding, which they celebrated over a weekend at Camp Canadensis. “It was so great to be able to go to adult summer camp for a weekend,” Brian says. The camp aesthetic informed all of the details, from custom Camp Canadensis mugs to pennant flags for each of the guest cabins. Whitney and Brian even provided their loved ones with merit badges, rewarding them for making new friends or trying ultra-spicy hot sauce. By the time of the ceremony, Brian admits the wedding “almost felt like a technicality,” until his favorite wedding experience of all: the first look.
Whitney paired her dress with a flower crown, vintage jewelry and a denim jacket stitched with her married name, Mrs. Rumble.
Rain pushed Whitney and Brian’s ceremony indoors, but, luckily, “the huge window overlooking the lake made a beautiful backdrop,” Brian says.
“I’m not a big icing person, so I love the naked cake trend,” Whitney says. To suit their tastes, the couple’s sister-in-law whipped up a naked spiced cake with layers of cream cheese icing, which sat alongside what Brian calls “a metric ton” of cupcakes.
Whitney teamed with family and friends to fill the simple vases of wildflowers for table décor. “I wanted it to feel like you walked into a field and picked flowers,” Whitney says.
After dousing comfort food like pulled pork in various hot sauces, courtesy of a fully stocked hot sauce bar, Whitney, Brian and their guests sipped whiskey gingers and blackberry and gin as they danced to a special playlist curated by Brian, a former DJ.
