A DIY Farm Wedding at Heritage Prairie Farm in Elburn, Illinois

What happens with international to-be-weds plan the farm wedding of their dreams? A sweet, outdoor celebration filled with dozens of DIY details, of course. Everything about Panthea Taghizadeh (31 and an anesthesiology resident) and Thomas Dobosz's (30 and an internal medicine resident) farm fete at Heritage Prairie Farm was personalized down to the smallest detail – from charming, hand drawn invitations and homemade wedding pies to DIY menu cards (created by the groom!) featuring four different languages. "I had always dreamt of getting married surrounded by nature and I wanted to find a place that would remind me of a Swedish summer," explains the bride. "With a little help from Google, I found the perfect farm that I later learned was home to many Swedish settlers in the 40s!" With no help from a planner, Panthea worked closely with their florist, Wallflower Designs, to create stunning, rose and succulent-filled arrangements – including a simple flower crown to complement her BHLDN dress (and short new do'!). "I made the decision to get a haircut and chopped it short two days before the wedding!" the bride explains. "I wanted something simple and comfortable – plus, it was perfect for the weather." Another personalized detail that's too sweet to pass up? A table full of traditional Swedish pies and Polish "paczki" along with pink meringues prepared by the bride herself. "We even had a great band (Gussied) that performed our favorite indie sons with a bluegrass twist," Panthea says. "They performed a famous Persian song for us which Julia Mammoser sang in fluent Farsi – it was so impressive!" As the night came to a close, guests were treated to late-night gourmet pizza and homemade Persian lime syrup favors before ending the evening with some well wishes. "To top off the night, we lit wish lanterns and watched them float way into the night sky," the bride says. "If we were to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing!"
