A DIY Fall Wedding at the Smithfield Plantation in Blacksburg, Virginia

Christine Frasca (24, geologist) and Michael Cornwell (26, software engineer) met at Virginia Tech. Michael jokes that the only reason he took the geology class where they met was to pick up girls. Michael ended up in another major, but by then he and Christine were going steady. He proposed to Christine while visiting her in grad school. He handed her a box and said, "I picked up something for you at the airport." Not expecting much, Christine was floored to discover an emerald ring, and she accepted Michael's proposal. Christine and Michael decided to be married in Blacksburg, which is where Christine grew up and where the couple first met. They chose Smithfield Plantation for its gorgeous views of Virginia in the fall. In keeping with the fall theme, Christine and Michael chose plum, green, orange and brown as their color palette. Their wedding was completely DIY, with stylized invitations created by Christine, flower arrangements of roses, dried hydrangeas and silk flowers provided by the mother of the bride, and homemade limoncello favors from friends. The adorable cake was baked by the bride's sister and decorated with fondant leaves and a lego minfigure cake topper. Christine and Michael's fall DIY wedding was intimate and sweet.
