A DIY Camp-Inspired Wedding at Camp Sky Ranch in Blowing Rock, North Carolina

Morgan Lord, 31, a journalist and Raun Meyn, 33, a woodworker met in Chicago through a punk rock glee club they were in together. "We would sing Bowie and the Clash songs together while drinking beer, and there's nothing more punk rock than falling in love," says Morgan. With family and friends coming from all over the country, the couple wanted to choose a spot where everyone could spend quality time together for an entire weekend. And a camp was the perfect fit. Though Chicago natives, Morgan spent a lot of time with her family in the Blue Ridge mountains growing up and loved the peaceful, natural setting of the area. They settled on Camp Sky Ranch in Blowing Rock, NC, an old boy scout camp in the heart of the mountains. The couple and their guests spent a weekend like true campers, staying in the log cabins and participating in fun camp-inspired activities all weekend long. "On our wedding day, a few of the our friends dressed as Boy Scouts and kicked off the day’s festivities by acting as camp leaders," says Morgan. "Guests were encouraged to participate in camp-style events such as a raising the flag ceremony, bugle playing and camp bell ringing." The wedding ceremony itself was officiated and coordinated by camp scouts, complete with a flag raising and trumpet calls. When it came to the décor, the couple wanted to highlight the setting, dressing up the camp with authentic vintage props that took the camp back to its golden years.
