A DIY Bohemian Wedding at Newton-Stromberg Park in Conifer, Colorado

Sarah Kinzbach (25 and a magazine editor) and Christopher Williams (30 and an engineering student) met when Chris walked into Sarah’s work and started a brief conversation. After more than four years together, Chris proposed. He had already asked permission from her father a few years before, but followed up again. One morning they went hiking onto the Butterfield Ranch. “I was so nervous and incredibly out of breath from the altitude and hiking so quickly,” Chris says. “I had this entire speech planned but when it came down to it, I don't think I got even a single, cohesive question out. She was completely floored. In fact, she just giggled for a good three or four minutes.” But, she said yes. Sarah and Chris wanted an intimate wedding with their 33 guests. They chose Newton-Stromberg Park because it was very accessible and affordable. They had their wedding on a budget and created a lot of DIY aspects such as the bride’s dress and the bridal bouquets. Sarah’s dress was made by a local seams tree, Nettie Kelly in Texas. They even went fabric shopping together! The flowers were bought a the local market and arranged by the bride’s sister. “ The wedding was in the foothills of Colorado in the summer, so we didn’t need a lot of color to make the setting pop,” she says. The decor was from second-hand shops, the linens were from Ikea and they grew their own herbs and other plants for the centerpieces. Even the invitations were free, printed on leftover paper from her magazine. Sarah’s favorite part was the gluten-free menu. Since she is gluten-intolerant, they made everything gluten-free including the delicious cupcakes from The Gluten Escape.
