A DIY, Backyard Wedding in Burlington, Michigan
Newlyweds Mallory Flanders (26 and a medical assistant) and Joshua Davis (26 and a radiology tech assistant) met in 2011 after a mutual friend insisted on setting them up. After dating for well over a year, Joshua surprised his bride-to-be on her 25th birthday while celebrating with friends and family at a local restaurant. "He said he was going to the bathroom, then he snuck out to the car to get a rose with a beautiful engagement ring around the stem," Mallory explains. "It was the best birthday gift, ever." For their rustic, outdoor wedding in Burlington, the couple chose to wed in a family member's backyard surrounded by 180 guests. Purple and ivory accents added a pop of color to the tented reception, while rustic elements -- including a hand-carved, wooden cake stand -- added a personalized touch. "The whole day reflected us as a couple," the bride says. "We especially loved the Mason jars with chalkboard labels at our reception -- guests were free to use them and take them home as a wedding favor!"
