A Country-Chic Wedding at Walnut Way Farm in Shelbyville, Kentucky

This rustic-chic wedding is totally Kentucky. “We are country people, and that was pretty evident throughout our wedding,” Molly Maggard (26 and a physician) says of her wedding to Mark Brockman (28 and a physician). Their venue, Walnut Way Farm, inspired the casual Kentucky style. The couple fell in love with the working horse farm, and when Molly first walked into the antique barn surrounded by rolling hills, she knew it was right. “Mark felt it too, and he squeezed my hand and said to me, ‘This is the perfect spot.’ ” They hosted their ceremony in the antique barn and kicked back in the stables donning cowboy boots for their reception. They carried the Kentucky theme to their menu, with a host of bourbon and cookies frosted in red and blue to show the couple’s playful rivalry between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. GT Treats created a wedding cake with romantic ruffles that echoed the South, covered in fresh springtime flowers. “Our wedding cake was such a hit, we didn’t even get a piece,” the bride says. And instead of a groom’s cake, the couple served miniature derby, cherry and chess pies. Even their wedding favors were sweet. “My grandfather is a beekeeper, and we bottled some of his honey in little jam jars and gave it with a gift tag that read ‘You’re so sweet for coming.’ ” See the cute details, captured by Jennifer Thornhill Photography, below.
