A Contemporary Island Wedding at Kualoa Ranch in Oahu, Hawaii
Marielle and TK Mckamy’s intimate waterfront wedding on the windward side of Oahu, Hawaii, was a contemporary bohemian affair laced with plenty of personal touches.
Borrowing from the natural beauty of the 4,000-acre nature reserve where they tied the knot, the pair opted for a color palette of green, cream and subtle hints of blush. Lush garlands of greenery accented with dramatic king protea and romantic ivory roses adorned the tables, and monstera-shaped placemats popped against the textured shell-inspired dinnerware.
On the sartorial front, Marielle and TK opted for modern glamour with a carefree twist. Marielle donned a blush Gahlia Lahav gown with a dramatic organza skirt and embellished bodice, while TK sported a velvet-trimmed tux with tasseled velvet loafers.
Wanting to share their story with their guests, Marielle and TK ensured that a number of decorative details were symbolically tied to the story of their relationship. They framed and hung journal entries that dictated qualities they valued in a partner—which they’d separately written, coincidentally describing each other before they’d even met—from the trees at the ceremony and placed bundles of sage (their favorite scent) at each place setting for the reception. One of Marielle’s favorite DIY details included hand-bound journal table numbers in which the newlyweds asked their guests to write their well-wishes and advice for Marielle and TK to read on the corresponding wedding anniversary.
The couple also hung up the same hammock where TK had written a journal entry about his feelings for Marielle before they started dating. Placed beside it was a blank journal for guests to write, doodle and share in. “TK and I really wanted to look around on our special day and be reminded of everything that makes us ‘us’,” Marielle says.
