A Colorful, Literary-Inspired Wedding at Wave Hill in the Bronx, New York
The Wave Hill botanical gardens were an ideal setting for history buffs, Danika Fears (27 and a journalist) and Anders Pauley's (28 and a lawyer), Hudson Valley wedding. “Theodore Roosevelt and Mark Twain both lived there,” Danika says. “When we first visited, we noticed a portrait of one of my distant relatives on the wall, so there was a family connection there too.” The historical references were numerous, yet subtle: “Anders walked down the aisle to a folk song that plays throughout Ken Burns’s Civil War documentary, and our Mark Twain cocktail napkins were a personal favorite,” Danika says. Guests sipped blackberry and basil gin fizzes—a cocktail that Danika and Anders frequently mix up at home. Additional treats included banh mi sandwiches, a raspberry-lemonade cake and a dim sum cart with dozens of dumplings, noodles and takeout containers.
