A Colorful Industrial Wedding at the Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah, Georgia
Given that Sarah Medearis (30 and an ob-gyn) and Justin Pollock’s (30 and a project manager) first date was breakfast at a humble Savannah diner, it’s no surprise that their wedding day was equally unconventional and laid-back. The two dip-dyed table runners and napkins and made way for rustic add-ons, like their calligraphed menu. The bride’s cotton crochet gown and the groom’s emerald tie and funky socks underscored the day’s boho-Southern vibe. Sarah borrowed a veil from her stepmom as her “something old.” Sarah gifted her bridesmaids bright statement necklaces that complemented their personalities (and tulle skirts). Having “impeccable taste,” Sarah’s bridesman dressed himself. The bride carried a bouquet with a pin from her best friend’s grandmother as her “something blue” and wore emerald earrings, Justin’s gift to her. At the reception, partygoers found a pimento cheese station (that included Sarah’s mom’s secret recipe)—the bride’s favorite—tacos paired with a hot sauce bar and, later, a tater tot station marked by a “Show Me Your Tots!” sign. The standout buttercream cake brought about even more personalization: A gold-dipped air plant topped alternating layers of almond poppy seed and chocolate made with stout from a local brewery. The couple took in the scene from rattan fan-back chairs at their sweetheart table, while a chandelier strung with pastel ribbons framed the dance floor. The pair’s late grandfathers inspired the signature drinks: “The Clyde,” a Manhattan-style cocktail, and “The Clarence,” a twist on a Moscow mule. Terra-cotta-potted succulents and herbs decorated tables and now live at home, says Sarah. “We continue to propagate them to keep little reminders of our day.” The husband and “wifey” made a grand exit through sparklers. Then, they hopped in a pedicab.
