A Colorful Indian Fusion Wedding at the Emory University Conference Center and Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia

Sudipta Chakraborty (27 and a neuroscientist) and Chris Muller (30 and also a neuroscientist) met in graduate school at Vanderbilt University during their rotations to find a thesis laboratory, where they immediately hit if off. "Sudipta impressed Chris by knowing every word to every Rick Astley song out there, and we bonded over our shared love of Atlanta Braves baseball and lazy, hazy summer days," they say. The went on a friendly dinner outing, but it ended up turning into a date when the cashier checked them out together. They made the most of the situation and continued the night with a movie, but they didn't officially start dating until a few months later. After three and a half years together, Chris proposed on a hike to one of their favorite spots on Radnor Lake. Sudipta and Chris held their wedding at the Emory University Conference Center and Hotel in the bride's hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. They had an Indian wedding ceremony in traditional red and gold attire before Chris changed into a suit and Sudipta into a two-piece purple and green Lehenga choli for the reception. Since many of their guests were unfamiliar with Indian wedding ceremonies, the couple explained all of the traditions in the program. The reception had a cool color scheme inspired by the bride's love of the ocean, and the decor aimed at merging Indian culture with some souther charm. Centerpieces incorporated simple arrangements of white hydrangeas in vintage blue mason jars, and the catering included some of Indian food from one of Sudipta's favorite restaurants along with fish and pasta from the university's caterers. "We mainly strived to have our day reflect the fusion of two cultures coming together and did our best to show that through the food and decor," Sudipta says.
