Jon Roselle (27 and a professional management consultant) and Ali Kahn (25 and a professional accountant) met performing in musicals together at the University of Michigan Gilbert & Sullivan Society (UMGASS) during college and became close friends after serving on the Executive Board together. "We ?fell in love over the course of several shows there and the rest is history!" says Ali.?Musical theater was such a part of their relationship that they even got engaged on stage after a performance of "The Pirates of Penzance." Jon surprised Ali during a curtain call in front of a sold out house; he had the stage manager hold the curtain and the music director played a love duet as he gave his speech. Her entire family, including her grandmother, were in the audience as well as Jon's mother. Jon's father was even on stage in the chorus!?Jon and Ali live in New York, but chose to have their ceremony and reception at the Planterra greenhouse in Bloomfield, Michigan for their ceremony and reception because it was a combination of natural beauty and modern style. "It was a debate whether to marry in the midwest or the Big Apple. But it was an easy decision once we found Planterra," Ali says. "The venue's wonderful open space made it the perfect venue for us, and they were able to plan the food, floral, and decor for us in-house, even from out of state."The couple incorporated their mutual love of musical theater into several aspects of their wedding—their seating chart, table decor and even vows were all inspired by their favorite musicals. ?"The combination of theater and live music truly reflected us as a couple and served to entertain our guests with a night they won't forget," Ali says. "It served dual purposes: it paid homage to our shared interests and our history as a couple, and it kept our friends on the dance floor all night."

The bride wore colorful peep toe heels with embellished toes for her "something new." They were hand-painted by her grandmother. She also accessorized with a pearl bracelet, her mother's wedding earrings and a blue garter.
The bride wore a beautiful strapless lace ball gown with silver beading by Rosa Clara. She wore her grandmother's pearl bracelet (old), her mother's wedding earrings (borrowed), the family heirloom garter (blue), and shoes that her other grandmother hand-painted for the occasion (new).

The bridesmaids wore victorian lilac strapless dresses from Bill Levkoff with a ruched neckline to echo the bride's dress. They carried smaller versions of the bride's bouquet. The groom and groomsmen wore complementary gray suits.

The bride and groom chose the Planterra greenhouse in Bloomfield, Michigan for their ceremony and reception because it was a combination of natural beauty and modern style. The bride and groom also loved that they were able to get an outdoor feeling without any risk of weather problems.
The bride and groom incorporated a lot of family projects and history into their wedding. The Chuppah was a family heirloom painted by the bride's grandmother (and local artist) Roshi Newman and had used at all of her family weddings.

The groom is a homebrewer, and created three unique signature beers for the night. Each beer came a custom label and a punny names like "J&A's Big Day IPA," "Hoppily Ever After," and "Something Borrowed, Something Brewed."
Greenhouse Table Settings
The bride and groom had a candlelit reception in the Planterra greenhouse in Bloomfield, Michigan. They had two live bands perform—a swing band and my the bride's father's  garage rock band. The bride and groom also serenaded each other with an assortment of songs.
Pastel Mosaic Tiered Cake
The bride and groom opted for a unique tiered carrot cake with ginger buttercream frosting and pastel stained glass painted fondant from the famous Zingerman's Bakehouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The bride and groom also had a variety of cupcakes for the guests: carrot cake with ginger buttercream, chocolate cake with dulce de leche filling and caramel buttercream, and vanilla buttermilk cake with lemon curd and raspberry buttercream.
The bride and groom were inspired by their venue's use of twinkle lights, which helped to determine their color palette. They chose a color palette of lavender, blue and pale yellow with silver accents.
