A Colorful Gallery Wedding in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Maegan and Jake take color very seriously, and not just because it’s a major part of her job. The couple opted for a design scheme that would portray their colorful personalities, using their DIY skills to create everything from confetti cones to the photo booth. “I put a lot of pressure on myself when it came to the invitations,” Maegan says. “I wanted to give the vibe that our wedding was going to be fun and vibrant.” The pair brought that to life by blowing up oversize balloons, choosing an ombré watercolor cake dripped with chocolate and having a temporary tattoo station at the reception. Just in case the décor didn’t make it clear, the signage said it all. “We Chat, We Snack, We Drink. We Watch. We Speak. We Eat. We Dance. We Snack Again. We Stagger Home & Sleep,” Maegan wrote. Maegan knew she’d found the right skirt when she checked out the name of the design: “Maegan.” The bride found that the oversize balloons “made for a bright, happy atmosphere.” And besides, “what better way to celebrate than with balloons?” she asks. Maegan gave her bridesmaids three rules for their attire: “chiffon, flowy and some shade of bright pink,” she says. In the end, “their dresses really matched their personalities.”
After a rainbow-colored confetti shower, Maegan and Jake hopped onto a pair of Yamaha Chappies and set off to their party—until Maegan took a small spill, that is. Maegan’s bouquet motto: More is more. Vibrant peonies, ranunculus, spray roses, anemones, dahlias and assorted greenery filled the arrangements. Guests sampled bulgogi beef, Korean barbecue pork, Thai chicken and sweet potato street tacos from What the Truck, no place settings necessary.
