Victoria Nunez (28 and a family medicine physician) and Evan Colmenero (29 and a family medicine physician) threw a colorful fiesta outdoor wedding at Ma Maison in Dripping Springs, Texas, just outside Austin. With many DIY elements like handmade mini pinatas and large paper flowers, the day was cultural and distinct. "I thought the overall relaxed and festive nature were great reflections of us as a couple; we are very lighthearted and casual," Victoria says. From the outdoor ceremony in the Grove area—complete with open lawns, dark wooden chairs and white lanterns down the aisle—to the indoor reception with Mexican blankets, mini pinatas and handmade tissue-paper flowers at each setting, the day embodied both rustic elegance and cultural celebration. Opting for an untraditional dress, Victoria wore an ivory-hued gown with sequins on the skirt designed by Truvelle. "It was perfect," she says, "not form-fitting and not a puffball either."
Victoria's bouquet featured succulents, white roses and bright pink peonies.
"When we were exploring wedding venues we fell in love with Ma Maison at first sight," recalls Victoria. "We loved the elegance of the venue and how beautiful it looked on its own. We especially loved the outdoor spaces since I have always dreamed about an outdoor ceremony."
"For my bridesmaids I made them swatch books with our wedding colors and just asked that the dresses be cocktail length," recalls Victoria. "The girls did a wonderful job on picking their dresses and they all came together beautifully. I trusted their tastes and it was one of the best decisions I made!"
The flower girls wore traditional embroidered Mexican dresses.
"Our wedding was in the middle of May in Texas so we didn't want anything that would cause our wedding party to pass out from the heat," explains Victoria. "So we went with simple white dress shirts, khaki pants and suspenders."
Victoria and Evan's mom made oversize flowers out of cardstock to decorate the ceremony arch.
The ceremony took place outdoors on the lawn of Ma Maison in Dripping Springs, Texas. The aisle seats were decorated with alternating white and green tissue-paper pompoms and white lanterns.
Escort cards were printed on purple, pink, blue and green cards with a floral eyelet cutout, then safety-pinned to string fastened to a wooden frame.
Mini pinatas were made by Victoria, her friends and Evan's mother. Created with the vibrant theme in mind, each was colorful.
Reception tables were lined with colorful Mexican blankets and vases filled with white and pink florals. Small homemade pinatas made by Victoria, her friends and Evan's mother were placed at each table. Every place setting was highlighted by a colorful tissue-paper flower also made by Evan's mother.
The Tex-Mex menu featured stuffed avocados and street-style tacos.
The couple's wedding cake was half gold, half white icing and was made by Victoria's stepmother. "My favorite flavor is white cake with raspberry filling, and Evan's was a Ferrero Rocher truffle cake." The cake was topped with fresh fuchsia florals.
