A Colorful, DIY Wedding at Downtown Market Grand Rapids in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Painted paper flowers and the punchy colors of mint, red, navy and gold added plenty of flair to Lauren DuCharme (29 and a hairstylist) and Michael Glowacki’s (32 and works in graphic design) DIY celebration at a Grand Rapids market.

“The market is one of our favorite places to eat, drink and find specialty foods,” Lauren says of their contemporary venue. “We love that the reception area is lined with glass windows and a terrace that offers beautiful views of the city.”

Michael’s mother created Lauren’s splashy bouquet using orchids, calla lilies, hand-painted pods and sunflowers sans petals.

Various paper blooms and painted blocks topped each reception table along with burlap runners flecked with gold.

Homemade desserts ranged from petit fours and heart-shaped sweets to tres leches cupcakes.
