A Coastal Garden Wedding at Nebo Lodge in North Haven, Maine
Hannah Greggs and Gerrit Benthem took full advantage of Maine’s natural beauty with an intimate summer wedding set along the rocky coast of North Haven Island.
The couple tapped Emily Elizabeth Events to bring their vision to life. The team didn’t disappoint, joining forces with Turner Farm and Nebo Lodge to create an unforgettable coastal farm ceremony and cozy garden dinner made with island-grown ingredients.
“The first time our wedding planner suggested Nebo Lodge, I rejected it straight away because of the logistics. But my now-husband took a better look at it and thank goodness he did—it was literally the exact right size for our wedding and so, so beautiful!” Hannah says. “I can’t imagine anywhere more suited to us and our event.”
The event’s stand-out detail (aside from the stunning location, of course) was the bright, seasonal blooms sourced from Pamela Mountain. A vibrant mix of elegant dahlias, garden roses and textured wildflowers, the whimsical arrangements enlivened the quaint interiors of the classic New England inn and tied in seamlessly with the locale’s lush, sea-facing gardens. From the mint and turquoise bistro chairs to the hand-lettered place cards, taper candles and fresh herbs delicately laid on each plate, the celebration exuded rustic elegant perfection.
“Don’t give into pressure to have a big wedding if that’s not what you want!" Hannah and Gerrit advise. "We felt pressure from all sides to have a big, spectacular event, but we stuck to our guns. It wasn’t what we wanted, and we wouldn’t have been happy. We were lucky to have support from our wedding planner and our family when others tried to persuade us to do something more traditional.”
