A Classy Backyard Wedding at Ka Hale Olinda in Maui, Hawaii
Sarah Foronda (24 and an attorney) and Owen Simmons (28 and a police officer) went away to Mokuleia beach in Oahu, Hawaii, the weekend before Sarah started her second year of law school. After they found a nice spot on the sand and enjoyed a barbecue lunch, Owen told Sarah to open a tied up plastic bag his dad had given him. Sarah struggled to get it undone, so she ripped through the plastic and found a box with a note that read, “Sarah, will you marry me?” The couple had their backyard wedding at Ka Hale Olinda in Maui, Hawaii, located on ranch property that had the peaceful ambience they were looking for. The color palette for the simple, natural outdoor wedding was purple, gray and beige. Sarah’s inspiration for the decor she created actually came from Snapple iced tea bottles, which had an “S” for their last name, Simmons. She wrapped burlap and lace around the bottles, filling them with purple lisianthus and roses for reception table centerpieces. An old antique typewriter served as a decorative prop at the reception, adding a vintage touch to the wedding. “We were really happy with our very special day. It was intimate, and there was enough time for us to talk with each guest that came to celebrate with us,” Sarah says.
