A Classic White Wedding at Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina
Sarah Michalowski (28 and a resident in pediatrics) and Christopher Wenzinger (26 and a resident in pathology) wanted their wedding to be traditional, elegant and full of love. They started their day in a traditional Catholic ceremony at Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston, South Carolina. “It is our home parish and the seat of the bishop of Charleston," Sarah says. "It was important to us for our wedding to be a full nuptial Mass. The cathedral is in the English Gothic style, with an exterior of Connecticut brownstone. The interior is bright and beautiful but solemn, with white plaster, exquisite stained glass and a high vaulted ceiling. We started going to Mass there as soon as we moved to town, so it has that added significance to us. The marriage ceremony itself reflected our religious beliefs, commitment and identity. It was at once joyous and solemn, and that seemed to have made an impression on our guests.” The exquisite gold detailing and romantic aura lent itself to minimal decor, but the couple brought the outside into their reception with stunning florals from Pretty Petals. Blush roses and white hydrangeas topped the tables at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, which perfectly complemented the soft white and blue bridal bouquet. One of our favorite details was the woven wedding cake decor from Ashley Bakery. Each layer of the white cake was wrapped with brown wicker that added a little rustic flair. There are so many elements we love—see them all, beautifully captured by Richard Bell Photography, below.
