A Classic Wedding at the Rose Street Market in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Alabama-based couple Nicole Jackson (27 and in pharmaceutical sales) and Melvin Hitchens (27 and in packaged goods sales) returned to the bride's home

Alabama-based couple Nicole Jackson (27 and in pharmaceutical sales) and Melvin Hitchens (27 and in packaged goods sales) returned to the bride's home state to tie the knot in a traditional church ceremony in Kalamazoo. "It was important to us to get married somewhere significant," Nicole explains. "It was the church that I grew up in -- my family still attends and is still very active there." With a little help from close friend and wedding planner Deyette Gardner, the two pulled off a classic reception at the Rose Street Market with plenty of elegant details -- including mercury glass votives filled with fresh flowers and dusty miller. As for planning advice? "Decide on a cut off date for all tasks," Nicole explains. "At that point, either delegate it to someone else or just forget about it! The last hours leading up to your wedding shouldn't be stressful."

Melvin and his groomsmen all wore fitted Vera Wang tuxedos from Men's Warehouse. "The fit of the tuxes added to the vintage feel," Nicole explains.
Nicole chose a pair of Betsey Johnson, jewel-encrusted pumps to compliment her ivory gown.
Each of the six bridesmaids wore soft pink Bill Levkoff bridesmaid dresses from Bella Bridesmaids in Jacksonville, Florida.

Tea lights and flower petals decorated the aisle, while large baby's breath arrangements were placed toward the altar. "After the ceremony, we jumped the broom," Nicole says. "The broom was decorated by a friend with pieces of jewelry and other beautiful trinkets."

A white buttercream cake from Amy's Cakes and More was served for dessert. "We knew we wanted a simple cake that tasted really good, and that's exactly what we got," Nicole says.
Mercury glass containers filled with dusty miller and white lisianthus served as small table decorations.
White folding chairs filled the Rose Street Market, where the couple celebrated with 150 family members and friends for the reception.
Toward the end of the reception, Detroit's Gabriel Brass Band was brought in to perform New Orleans-style music. "Our friends and family -- especially the Louisiana side -- really enjoyed this special treat," Nicole says.
