A Classic Wedding at the Island House in Johns Island, South Carolina
Inspired by their two favorite colors, Mea Wheeler (works in importing) and Clay Brooks (works in lighting and sound) decided on eggplant purple and lime green for their wedding's color palette. “My favorite color is purple and Clay's is lime green,” Mea says. “Who knew they'd look so great together? We wanted both of our personal styles to be a part of the wedding. Mine is more classic, while Clay's is a little more vibrant.” With the help of Ashley Russell from Ashley Nicole Events, the couple perfectly balanced their two styles and had a classic wedding at the Island House in Johns Island, South Carolina. Loving the stunning waterfront venue from the moment they stepped onto the property the first time, the couple let the natural decor speak for itself. “For our decor, we let Mother Nature do most of the work,” Mea says. “Between our beautiful location and the amazing flowers, there wasn't much left to do.” We adore the stunning florals from Justin Wham at JW Weddings and Events—our favorite was the cascading red rose and black calla lily bouquet. Shades of purple and green filled the tented reception complete with rose and viburnum centerpieces as well as purple chair caps from Mea’s friend Nicole Burnham with Covers by Nicole. Another standout detail was the ultra-local menu. Since they're both from South Carolina, they had all the best fare, including fried-green-tomato wedges with pimento cheese, shrimp and grits and barbecue.
