A Classic Spring Wedding at The Garrison in Garrison, New York
Jamie Miles (30 and site director at Hearst Magazines) and Harrison Vigersky (33 and a financial analyst) put a rock and roll twist on their classic spring wedding in Garrison, New York, with playful details that spoke to their love of music. Tying the knot in Hudson Valley was an easy choice for Jamie and Harrison—not only had the pair gotten engaged at Storm King Sculpture Park in New Windsor a year earlier, but they had also spent their last three dating anniversaries together in the area. The décor reflected the freshness and natural beauty of the region in spring, with a color palette of blush, gold, ivory and punchy pops of greenish-blue and cascading hand-tied florals with a just-picked feel. The couple also worked with stationer Sarah McCay to incorporate a watercolor of their ceremony site into the invitations. “It was fun knowing that guests wouldn’t entirely understand what they were looking at until they attended the ceremony and saw that it was the same view from the wedding invite,” Jamie says. The evening’s subtle music theme kicked off with a live performance by a guitarist and violinist during the ceremony. Cocktail hour included more tunes from the string duo. For the escort cards, Jamie and Harrison made custom concert tickets for “The Jamie and Harrison Experience.” Each ticket pointed guests toward a different concert venue from Madison Square Garden to Brooklyn Bowl and Village Vanguard. Retro black-and-white photos of the venues helped guests identify their tables. “Harrison and I love concerts, and they’re one of our favorite things to do together, so we wanted to bring this element into our wedding to personalize it,” Jamie says. The couple are also avid Phish fans and have seen many of their shows together, so choosing a song from the band for their first dance was a no-brainer. The cake and cocktails were other details that bore Jamie and Harrison’s personal stamp. While buttercream frosting and fresh flowers gave the five-tier cake classic appeal, a confetti interior perfectly reflected the party’s festive atmosphere. Signature cocktails included the couple’s favorites—a Ketel One dirty martini (You’re the One) and a negroni (Just Camparied). The newlyweds kept the party going well past the last dance, rounding up some of their closest family and friends and ushering them off to an Airbnb nearby, where they had a pop-up bartender pour late into the night. “While planning, don’t stress over every detail,” Jamie says. “This is your chance to have everyone you love in the same room and introduce yourselves as a married couple to them for the first time—show them who you really are! Take a few details and personalize them, then move on and make decisions based on what you like, not what someone else is telling you to do.”
