A Classic Romantic Wedding at The Westin Chicago Northwest in Itasca, Illinois

Chicago-based nurses Alan (35) and Jill (30) were introduced through the groom's cousin nearly 11 years ago before realizing they had a spark. "We exchanged numbers and kept in touch over the years as we had mutual friends," Alan explains. "Four years later, we finally decided to go on a date and we've been together ever since." At the time of their proposal, Alan was living in Las Vegas when he planned a last-minute flight to see Jill the weekend of her birthday. "I planned a surprise party for her at my mom's house and she had no idea that I was hiding in a separate room," he explains. "I Skyped in to the party to tell her that I wanted to see her reaction when she opened her birthday gift (it was a necklace to throw her off!). I then continued to tell her that I wanted her to read what I wrote on a piece of paper, so I held it up to the camera. As she focused on the screen in an attempt to read the message, I quickly came out of the room where I was hiding and got down on one knee." For their February nuptials, the couple exchanged vows at the St. Hyacinth Basilica where Jill wore a strapless, fitted lace dress by designer Tara Keely. "I loved the drama of my cathedral length veil," she says. For their formal reception at The Westin Chicago Northwest, the newlyweds celebrated with nearly 300 guests under a heated indoor tent connected to the hotel venue. "Everything was draped in white and simple, gold chandeliers ran across the venue," Jill says. "I loved the look of a white, blank canvas that I could transform into whatever I wanted." Guests were treated to a formal cocktail hour in the atrium lobby of the hotel and later to the couple's favorite Chicago treat:  "Our wedding favors included Garrett's Popcon, which our guests loved!" the bride says. As for wedding advice to future brides, Jill says, "Don't forget to take a breath and have a moment to yourself. Just try to live in the moment and enjoy every second of the day."
