A Classic, Romantic Wedding at the Tulsa Historical Society in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Abbey Smith (23 and an occupational therapy student) and Jamal Bandeh (26 and an implementation consultant at Blue Cross Blue Shield) met when their respective sorority and fraternity were paired together for homecoming preparations, a tradition at their alma mater, Oklahoma State University. Jamal sat down next to Abbey, and before they knew it, they had talked for half an hour before realizing they needed to get back to work. Afterwards, Abbey turned to her friend and said, “Oh my goodness, I’m in love.” It only took one brief meeting after that day for the two to begin dating. Jamal graduated a year before Abbey, so the couple had a long-distance relationship for Abbey’s last year at OSU. When Abbey was about to graduate, her family told her to come to their land and take pictures for a celebration. When she arrived, her sister took her to the top of a hill where she saw a makeshift backdrop covered in a white sheet. Abbey’s entire family emerged from behind the sheet in pairs, all holding signs with classic love quotes on them and holding a rose. The last to emerge was Jamal, who bent down on one knee and popped the question with a solitaire diamond atop a thin, diamond-studded band. The Asbury United Methodist Church served as an elegant backdrop to Abbey and Jamal's emotional, love-filled ceremony. Even after sharing a first look, Jamal still shed tears at the sight of Abbey walking down the aisle towards him. Abbey wore a cap sleeve lace gown with a cutout in the back, and her bridesmaids wore strapless, floor length neutral pink dresses. Jamal and the groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos and bow ties to match the timeless, formal style. After the ceremony, the wedding party loaded on to a picturesque trolley to head towards the Tulsa Historical Society building, where multitudes of friends and family excitedly welcomed them in to celebrate their first day of marriage! Eating, drinking, dancing, laughing, and having a wonderful time in general continued late into the night.
