A Classic, Purple Wedding at The Madison Event Center in Covington, Kentucky

Alaina Gibson (28 and a labor relations investigator) and Brian Nikonow (27 and a user experience designer) met as undergraduates at Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania. Their relationship thrived from laughter and happiness for the next eight years of dating. The couple finally spent Christmas in the same area together, and went for a walk in the snow-covered woods, where Brian got down on one knee. Once they were engaged, the couple made wedding arrangements fast to ensure Alaina’s mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer, would see them get married. Alaina and Brian agreed to have a classy, elegant wedding decorated in a color palette of purple and gray. The ceremony took place at Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio, with stained glass windows and regal flair. Brian made the ceremony programs designed with bridal party silhouettes printed on the stationery. The reception was at the Galleria Ballroom inside the Madison Event Center in Covington, Kentucky. Black and white escort cards guided guests to their seats, who filled out advice cards in lieu of a guest book. Alaina wore a ivory strapless wedding dress accented with laced fabric and purchased from David’s Bridal. Not only was the dress special because of Alaina’s love for lace, but also the role her mother took the selecting process. “David's Bridal does this thing where you stand on the platform, make a wish and ring the bell when a bride finds her dress. For the first time, the consultant brought someone else onto the platform, my mommy, and made a wish together,” says Alaina. “That wish came true because my mommy not only made it to the wedding, she was able to whip me around the dance floor a few times, too.”
