A Classic Purple Wedding at Savoy Ballroom in Springfield, Missouri
Chelsie Dittman (24 and an accountant) and Adam Dittman (24 and a police officer) met at Missouri State University through mutual friends. They started seriously dating their sophomore year of college right before Adam found out he was being deployed for a tour to Iraq. But, Adam came back and proposed on their three-year anniversary at Sequiota Park. Chelsie had been wanting photos of her, Adam and their dog, Sophie, so Adam hired a photographer to surprise her with a photo session. “When we finished up our photo shoot I had my photographer friend pretend to leave, and I walked Chelsie to the center of the park with a gift in hand,” Adam says. “I had spent the week prior putting together scrabble letters with words that made me think of her and at the bottom it said, ‘Marry Me.’ I mounted the letters to a picture frame. I gave her the framed scrabble letters, and as she was reading through the words I got down on one knee and waited for her to not only see the words, but look up and see me. When she finally looked up the first words out of her mouth were, ‘Are you serious?’ and I, of course, told her I was. I asked her if she would marry me and she said, 'Yes' as she began to cry.” For their wedding, the couple had a traditional Catholic Ceremony at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church complete with vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows. Afterwards, Party Bus Express took guests to Savoy Hotel for a classic reception. Chelsie and Adam used purple for their main color and accented it with blue, green and gold. Inspired by Adam’s military background, Chelsie gave Adam a sword that was used to cut the cake, they had a traditional Marine Corps sword ceremony and, in lieu of favors, they made a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
