A Classic, Modern Wedding at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, Illinois
After a colleague introduced Malorie (28 and an auditor) and Tom (28 and an accountant) at work, the two quickly realized that they had a connection. One country concert and many Cubs games later, the two began dating; with Tom proposing just four years after their initial introduction. "I went home to visit my family and my dad requested that we go out to a nice dinner," Malorie says. "We were early for our reservation, so my family and I stopped at the Trump Tower for a drink beforehand. When we got there, Tom came around the corner in a three-piece suit and took me up to a hotel room which was covered in rose petals and photos of us -- then he proposed!" For their downtown wedding in the city, the couple exchanged vows at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church before heading to their unique reception venue -- the Adler Planetarium. "We wanted a modern, contemporary feel rather than an antique-looking ballroom," the bride explains. With the venue's windows and open space, the planetarium just had the right look. Plus, since most of our guests were coming from out of town, we picked a reception venue that featured the best view of the Chicago skyline." Classic elements like floor-length, red Bill Levkoff dresses and an elegant white strapless gown from Vwidon Bridal helped to lend a modern, yet elegant feel to the day. "Our wedding style was very much a reflection of us," the bride says. "I wanted a modern, yet classy look -- hence why our stationary and decor included a lot of straight lines and bold colors. No lace or vintage here!" Guests enjoyed a post-ceremony cocktail hour outside (that featured "Tom-ikaze" and "Mal-tini" drinks to honor the couple!) before moving inside for dinner with a view. Dinner and drinks aside, the couple worked to incorporate as many personal elements as possible into their big day. "Our save the dates were designed to look like concert tickets since we're both music lovers," the bride explains. "We even provided guest bags that included Garret's Popcorn and 312 beer. And since the Navy Pier shoots off fireworks in the summer, we had our DJ play Chicago-themed music while our guests enjoyed the show -- along with Chicago-style hot dogs of course! It was our piece of Chicago that we were lucky enough to share with our guests."
