A Classic, Elegant Wedding at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York
Melody Abikhair and Paul Burgo celebrated their wedding in a tent outside of Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. "Our wedding represented a mix of several cultures from around the world and was the first time our families and friends had been together in the same country, let alone the same venue," Melody says. (She's from Australia, and Paul's Italian-American family lives in Rochester.) As a nod to their current home in New York City, the couple chose a "black-tie attire of Manhattan party life" dress code. Eucalyptus from Melody’s native Australia and olive leaves from Italy were strong thematic elements throughout the wedding. "The greenery was reflected in the invitations and menus," the couple says. "It spilled down from a wood chandelier over the dance floor and formed the circular arch of our wedding ceremony. It also filled the bouquets and centerpieces, where it was punctuated by other Australian flowers like proteas in white and dusty rose, blue thistle and crimson amaranth." Simple white place cards were also pinned to hanging eucalyptus. To catch a break from the festivities, guests could relax in a lounge area with black tables and couches, listen to the well-thought-out music choices and eat miniature pavlovas (an Australian dessert), Italian cookies and cannoli. The night concluded with an after-party inside the clubhouse, which guests found at the end of a candle-lined pathway.
Our favorite #MakeTradition Moment: "After the reception and before the after-party, guests followed a candlelit path to the porch. There they were invited to join Paul and Melody in toasting Paul's recently passed father with a selection of his favorite Italian aperitifs served at a beautifully arranged candlelit table aside his portrait," the couple says.
