A Classic DIY Wedding at Hall 653 in Maple Grove, Minnesota
After five years of dating, high-school sweethearts Becky (24 and a microbiologist) and Kevin (25 and a landscape foreman) got engaged during a weekend getaway at Kevin's cabin. "He told me we should try a winter hike at one of our favorite spots, Inspiration Peak," Becky says. "I complained about the cold the entire time, but when we got to the top, Kevin dropped to one knee. The hike was well worth it!" The two went on to tie the knot at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church before celebrating with 275 family members and friends at Hall 653 in Maple Grove. "We wanted our wedding to have a classic, country feel, so we used a neutral color palette with pops of purple," the bride explains. "I spray painted wine bottles to look like they were stenciled with lace that were later used as vases. Kevin made the cupcake stand using wood cut from my parent's farm and we refurbished some old farmhouse windows to display our engagement photos." But the DIY details didn't stop there. Becky and her bridesmaids created both the table numbers and centerpieces using mason jars wrapped in burlap along with birch bark candle holders. "The simple country theme was a great reflection of us as a couple," the bride says. "As we planned our wedding, it was of the utmost importance to us that all of our family and friends were in attendance and having a great time. We just wanted to provide our guests with plenty of food, beverages and space to help us celebrate our special day."
