A Classic, Contemporary Wedding American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota

A marriage of traditional and contemporary, Kate Parran (29 and a marketing account executive) and Kyle Marks (30 and in U.S. Army Emergency Operations) had a classic wedding at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. “Kyle and a few of his groomsmen are in the military. It was important to us to honor that by having them wear their formal military dress blues,” says Kate. Since the couple amped up the elegance, the bride wanted to add in pops of bright colors for a modern touch. “We chose to pair coral and teal—two of my favorite colors—with metallic and neutrals. Kyle also loves the color purple, which we incorporated into the dessert hour,” says Kate. The ceremony took place in the courtyard at sunset, with lanterns and overflowing flower petals to create a romantic garden atmosphere. Later, guests explored the historic mansion and moved into the Nelson Cultural Center for dinner and a showstopping wedding cake: Three separate white tiers parted by gold ribbon layers and topped with vibrant gold roses. The reception turned into a dance party when Skyline took the stage, and to create a nightclub vibe, the couple passed out LED bracelets that flashed to the beat of the music. “Even though we were in one venue, we wanted guests to feel like they were in completely different spaces as the evening proceeded,” says Kate. "It was an incredible atmosphere and the music was amazing!"
