A Classic, Bohemian Wedding at The Standard Knoxville in Knoxville, Tennessee

Kimmie Hawk and Zac Valentine’s wedding at The Standard in Knoxville, Tennessee, was a classic, bohemian affair with plenty of understated natural touches.

The couple softened the venue’s rustic-industrial vibe with a color palette of pastel pink and gold, lots of greenery, and full blush blooms. Kimmie and Zac tapped the creativity and talents of their family and friends to put a personal twist on the event. The vine-draped wood arbor that framed the couple during the ceremony was handcrafted by their neighbor, and Kimmie’s dad built a bar for the reception from the ground up. Kimmie even tried her hand at calligraphy to give all of the day-of signage and stationery a fanciful flourish.

“My mother is no longer with us, so I wanted to find ways for her to be a part of the day,” Kimmie says. “One of my favorite details was a picture of her and my dad on their wedding day, which we put in a chair during the ceremony. We also did the same for Zac’s grandmother and my granny and papaw.” Kimmie also sewed a heart made from a shirt that had belonged to her mother to the inside of her wedding dress.

After the “I dos,” the newlyweds and their guests noshed on tacos and ice cream cookie sandwiches, then hit the dance floor.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Most everyone wants to help in some way, and you’re going to need the extra hands and minds. Even though planning took a lot of time and energy, we wouldn’t have had it any other way,” Kimmie says. “It was cool seeing everything we imagined come to life. Though this is true, all that matters in the end is each other. That’s what made the day truly amazing.”
