A Classic Black-Tie Wedding at The Detroit Institute of Arts in Michigan

Ryan McClure (31 and a showroom director) and Zachary Miller (30 and a banker) wed in the section of the Detroit Institute of Arts that sold them in the first place—among Diego Rivera’s “Detroit Industry Murals.” “Zachary and I both love the architecture of old buildings and their history and beautiful features,” Ryan says. Her trumpet gown—purchased from her parents’ salon—included covered buttons and a bow, which she accessorized with her mom’s pearl and gold necklace and vintage jewelry. The couple asked their wedding party to dress “sleek and minimal” for their black-tie bash. “We wanted everything to feel crisp, clean and classic,” Ryan says of their wedding style. “No frilly colors or extravagant themes—just a thoughtful, chic design.” Acrylic stands filled with pillar candles and white hydrangeas lined the aisle. After an “I do” under a clear arch topped with white hydrangeas, the gold, black and white celebration continued inside the artistic setting. Pared down arrangements of peonies and alliums set a modern scene. “The gorgeous limestone walls and marble floors lent themselves to a classic evening party,” Ryan says. After grooving with Zachary to Sam Cooke’s “Wonderful World,” Ryan danced with her dad to Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.” The night capped with quite the masterpiece: a chocolate and cream cheese fondant cake made to resemble the museum’s interior.
