A Chic Summer Wedding at the Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch in St. Helena, California
Bermuda-based Kara Fisher (29 and an insurance broker at Aon Bermuda Limited) and Soniko Thomas (29 and an assistant manager at Gosling’s) brought island style to their vineyard venue to celebrate their love of the Golden State.
“We were very keen to have Bermuda in our wedding although we were getting married in California,” Kara says of exchanging vows in the state where they both went to college. “All colors were inspired by Bermuda, its beautiful ocean and its pink sand,” she says of the navy blue, light blue and coral used in the ceremony and reception. “I also like the rustic outdoors, hence the farm tables and simple table design.”
The groom and his groomsmen sported Bermuda formal attire: navy blazers, coral shorts and tall socks.
Aqua runners and vibrant pink and fuchsia floral arrangements topped the wood tables.
Kara and Soniko exchanged vows flanked by two wine barrels, a nod to the vineyards in the backdrop. Guests dined on traditional Bermudian fare, which included mini codfish cakes made with hot cross buns and, of course, dark ’n’ stormies made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum.
“We chose tropical, local flowers and wanted a mix to make it look wild and natural,” Kara says. Centerpieces incorporated pink peonies and king protea, while the cake was crowned with fuchsia blossoms. “They complemented the California landscape,” she says.
“I always wanted our wedding to be a small, intimate backyard party, and it felt like that,” Kara says.
