A Chic Purple Wedding at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, New Jersey
Committed to an ultra-personalized day, Desiree Wiggins (30 and a senior paralegal at Equity One) and Marvin Charles (34 and a HVAC technician at Hamilton Air) added fun details to their wedding. Everything was completely reflective of them, from their first steps as newlyweds to “Love on Top” by Beyonce to their surprise “No Diggity” by Blackstreet first dance to their “I Love You Like A Fat Kid Loves Cake” cake topper. The New York couple exchanged vows at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, New Jersey, because it was less expensive than downtown New York City and was still intimate and casual. “Mayfair had a ton of personality and vintage touches with a great staff that went above and beyond along the way,” Desiree says. “It was also close enough to New York City and Brooklyn for our family and friends to get to.” Barbara Bell Design created all the stunning floral arrangements, including many shades of purple and even dried lavender, which added texture (and a wonderful aroma) to the otherwise classic look. Petronella Lugemwa from Petronella Photography, who beautifully captured all the details of the day, was one of the couple’s favorite professionals. “She was amazing to work with and her work ethic was awesome,” Desiree says. The bride also loved her fabulous DJ, 74 Events. “Our DJ did an amazing job of keeping the party going until the end,” she says. “No one wanted to leave. They made the day absolutely perfect.” A tip from the bride: “Planning wise, sometimes done is better than perfect. For some things I decided even though there might’ve been a perfect this or that to keep researching or shopping for, it was better to get it off my list than to stress about making everything perfect. If you keep looking at other options you’ll get overwhelmed and regret. So once you’ve chosen your dress, stop looking at dresses. It’ll drive you bonkers. Focus on things that are important to you as a couple and let everything else go.”
