A Chic, Mid-Century Modern Wedding at the Omni Parker House in Boston, Massachusetts

Nine years before Will Runkle (34 and a healthcare administrator) and Alex Vonghakdy (40 and an information technology analyst) tied the knot, they met online, sharing a connection almost immediately. After meeting in person at friend’s party, Will and Alex became inseparable. On a trip to Paris, France, after six years together, Will popped the question. “I carried the ring around with me for almost a week into our trip, just waiting for the right moment,” says Will. “It finally came as we were having a picnic lunch in a small neighborhood park one day. As we were unpacking the food, I opened the ring box and laid it on the bench we were sitting on. He was very surprised!” When it came to planning their wedding, the couple opted for a mid-century modern bash in Boston, the city they now call home. “Despite having lived in Indianapolis for years and most of our friends and family living in the Midwest, we really wanted everyone to visit this great city and make a long weekend of it, so they could see why we love it so much,” says Will. For their chic Mad Men-inspired affair, Will and Alex chose the Omni Parker House for their venue, hosting both the ceremony and reception in the rooftop Ballroom. Located right on the Freedom Trail, guests were right at the heart of all the action, perfect for exploring the city during their downtime. Working with their planner and designer Edna of EFD Creative, the couple decked out the stunning rooftop ballroom with graphic linens, inventive floral centerpieces and custom-designed stationery. Will and Alex’s Mad Men-inspired engagement photos made an appearance on each of the reception tables and paired with retro props and a gray and orange color palette, brought their vision to life. As a nod to Alex’s Laotian background, the couple had the DJ play to popular Laotian songs, which got everyone up on the dance floor. Guests indulged in inspired passed apps and stations before a decadent four-course meal that gave them the fuel to dance the night away. Later in the evening guests noshed treats at the stocked dessert bar, while taking in the short video put together by the couple’s videographer Ready, Set, Film, which showed highlights from the ceremony and the toasts. “Alex and I, along with the guests, were completely blown away by the high quality and quick turnaround of that video. It was very special,” says Will.
