A Chic, Masculine Wedding at the Darlington House in La Jolla, California
Mark Robertson and Joshua Tucker pulled off a formal al fresco affair laced with chic, contemporary touches and masculine flair for their late fall wedding at the Darlington House in La Jolla, California.
Borrowing from the venue’s elegant vibe and ample greenery, the couple paired natural and polished accents to stunning effect. For the garden ceremony, copper geometric lanterns wrapped with lush greenery lined the aisles, and modern glass candelabras stood in bold contrast to the reception’s Provençal farm tables. The florals were the evening’s standout detail. Orchid-studded manzanita trees surrounded by an ornate base of hydrangeas, ferns and pincushion proteas brought an element of visual drama to the tables and popped against the bright turquoise linens.
“One of our favorite parts of planning the wedding was incorporating our favorite songs into the ceremony and reception,” Mark says. “The music was a special highlight that many of our guests remarked on later.”
When it came to choosing their down-the-aisle duds, the pair opted for dashing midnight-blue tuxedos, then spiced things up for their extras, choosing shoes, bow ties and pocket squares that reflected their unique personalities. “We wanted to be classy, masculine and trendy—but not gimmicky,” Mark says.
