A Charming Yellow Wedding at Colony 29 in Palm Springs, California
After being together for 24 years, Allyn Miller (above right, 70 and a strategic marketing consultant) and David Salinas (48 and an event marketing consultant) decided they were “going to the chapel” to affirm their commitment. Using that famous line as their inspo, the pair threw a bright, cheerful desert celebration, complete with sweet nods to family, tons of flowers and a pair of pale yellow suits. A playful church door along a boxwood wall greeted guests at the venue, leading everyone to a ceremony in the round, alfresco space with pops of yellow and green. To honor David’s Mexican heritage, the pair hung a lazo, a floral garland, around themselves as a symbol of their unity. David pinned his mother’s ring inside his suit pocket as his “something borrowed.” After the ceremony, guests rocked custom white sunglasses affixed to the escort cards. A mariachi band—as is tradition in David’s family—played during cocktail hour, while a DJ spun Latin cumbias after dinner. “There wasn’t an empty space on the dance floor,” David says. A local men’s ensemble also belted out tunes like “When I Fall in Love." Bold linens and arrangements of calla lilies, orchids and succulents completed the chic look. Following the last dance at the reception, Allyn and David made a smooth exit in a 1950s Airstream trailer inspired by Palm Spring’s postmodern ambience. “We saw it at a local event and fell in love—we had to have it at our wedding,” David says. The Airstream, decked out in a “just married” sign, pulled triple-duty as it also served as the photo booth backdrop and a pre-ceremony hangout earlier in the day.
