A Casual Wedding at Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake, Illinois

For the laid-back, low-key couple looking for a casual, relaxing wedding, the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake, Illinois, is a gem. Michelle Malone (25 and a teacher) and Michael Reynolds (24 and in transportation) planned their destination wedding from Florida, so they didn’t even see the venue until their wedding day—but it didn't disappoint. “We wanted to have the ceremony and reception in one location and be able to be indoors as well as outdoors,” Michelle says. The couple loved the wooden beams and oversize windows in the barn, which was perfect for their rustic-style reception. They added pops of color with a team and blue color palette, and accented the space with vintage glasses, chests, lanterns and teapots with burlap and lace runners. The couple’s favorite details? “We loved the wildflower look, as if our flowers had all just been picked from the prairies outside,” Michelle says of the colorful arrangements atop the tables. Another subtle touch throughout the wedding was the Disney theme, a nod to how Michelle and Michael met. The couple displayed cupcakes on a stand with Mickey Mouse ears along with little touches here and there. “Every time I saw something, it made me smile,” Michelle says. “They say it all started with a mouse, and for Michael and me, it truly did.” See the sweet details, captured by Amy Aiello Photography, below.
