A Casual Waterfront Wedding at Lowndes Grove in Charleston, South Carolina
Katie Hall (29 and an IT recruiter) and Kyle Wood (28 and a federal government employee) met when they randomly struck up a conversation at a Zac Brown Band concert —not knowing it would change their lives forever. The couple threw a laid-back wedding on the banks of the Ashley River at Lowndes Grove, a grand estate in Charleston, South Carolina, dotted with century-old oaks. After a simple church ceremony, Katie and Kyle arrived for an unforgettable entrance to their reception via vintage lobster boat. “We wanted the reception to feel more like a big family-and-friends gathering than a formal event,” Katie says. For an effortlessly elegant look, the couple added wicker seating areas, rocking chairs and hanging lanterns around the plantation’s waterfront lawn. Katie and Kyle’s summery peach, gray and mint palette accentuated the natural beauty of the brackish water, scenic dock and lush grounds of the estate. The bridesmaids donned strapless peach Donna Morgan dresses, while the groomsmen sported classic gray suits with peach and mint ties. True to their sentimental nature, the couple incorporated several personal touches throughout their wedding, including Kyle’s golden retriever, Tucker, who was photographed with the bridal party. To bring their relationship full circle, Katie and Kyle's first dance as husband and wife was to “Loving You Easy,” by the Zac Brown Band. —Juliette Cheatham
