A Casual, Industrial Wedding at Uppercut Boxing Gym in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Glass growler centerpieces, soft pretzels and an autumnal arch made of beer hops lent a laid-back vibe to Leigh Shadko (32 and an associate educator) and Brian Hanson’s (32 and a financial consultant) beer-hall-inspired nuptials. It was essential for the avid home brewers to find an urban venue that would permit them to serve their own beer. “The industrial feel of the gym was perfect for the casual tone we hoped to set, and the courtyard was great for lawn games and a late-night fire pit,” Leigh says of the setting. Brian’s niece and nephew carried a cutout of the couple’s cat, Iris, down the aisle. Leigh surprised her husband by having a string ensemble perform a medley of music from the couple’s favorite shows, including Battlestar Galactica, The X-Files and Game of Thrones. “Brian and I spend a lot of time nerding out together, so it seemed appropriate to celebrate that part of our relationship,” she says.
