A Casual, Classic Wedding at Union Horse Distilling Co. in Lenexa, Kansas

Holly Brumbaugh (31 and a creative strategist) and Ryan Wohlers (35 and a technology deployment manager) met as children growing up in the same town. One evening at their home together, Ryan and his daughter, Presley, gave Holly a handwritten card that said, “I love you. Will you marry my daddy?” “The proposal was a direct reflection of the importance Presley has in our relationship with them to ask me so formally become a part of theirs,” Holly says. For their wedding, they wanted it to feel more like a dinner party and less like a wedding. They chose Dark Horse Distillery in Lenexa, Kansas, for its casual, rustic atmosphere. They decorated the reception with candles and hydrangeas and set up a living room-inspired space so guests could watch the Royals play in game five of the World Series. Ryan and his father are really into cigars, too, so they had a cigar bar on the outside patio for guests to enjoy. Not wanting their wedding to be too fussy, they used a neutral color palette with pops of metallic gold and silver throughout the decor. Holly and Ryan served Holly’s cousin’s homemade wine throughout the reception and enjoyed cakes made by Holly’s aunt. including chocolate, red velvet and almond. Yum!
