A Bright Rustic DIY Wedding at Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Crested Butte, Colorado

Some may dread Tax Day, but for Bernida Egging (31 and an engineer) and Adam Chapman (37 and works in sales), it was the day their paths collided and sparks flew. It was Vail closing weekend and Adam had arranged a carpool ride with Bernida up to the mountains to meet friends. "From the first moment I heard Bernida laugh, I was hopelessly smitten," says Adam. Because of busy schedules, the two didn't meet again until they bumped into each other at a friend's birthday party. "Adam walked immediately over to me and stated that he wanted to take me on a date to my favorite sushi place in town," says Bernida. "I have never been asked out so directly, without any pretense or smarminess. From that moment on, we have been inseparable." When Adam decided to propose to Bernida, he knew he wanted the proposal to reflect all of the adventures they had embarked on together. One afternoon Adam surprised Bernida by taking her sky diving — giving her only 30 minutes notice — and it was there, 1500ft in the air that Adam popped the question. As the two were floating in the sky, their two friends arrived to the landing site and rolled out a 60ft sign that read "Will you marry me B?" The couple chose Crested Butte as the place to say their "I do's." The spot highlighted everything Bernida and Adam loved about living in Colorado, the spectacular vistas, the abundance of outdoor activities and amazing food. For the ceremony, the couple and their guests took a chairlift to the top of a ridge and it was there, overlooking Gothic Valley, that the couple exchanged vows. The reception was held on the mountain as well, at Uley's Cabin, where guests enjoyed a night of dinner and dancing under the stars, followed by a roaring fire where they could roast marshmallows. Playing off the fall season and the wedding's stunning backdrop, they chose a bright color palette of autumnal colors for the decor and had their florist, Blue Bird Weddings & Events, create floral arrangements that had a just-picked feel. "We really tried to make the decor reflect our personalities," says Bernida, "wild, adventurous, and full of fun."
