A Bright, Romantic Wedding at Netherlands Carillon Park in Arlington, Virginia
Evelyn Heinemeier (27, business development manager) and Kurt Henderson (29, biorepository coordinator) met at a friend's Halloween party. Although everyone at the party egged them on to start dating from the get-go, they stayed friends for a year before becoming a couple. Two years later, on a trip to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, Kurt proposed to Evelyn on a secluded beach at sunset. The couple wanted their guests to enjoy the scenic views of the Potomac River and Washington, D.C. at their wedding. They chose the Netherlands Carillon Park in Arlington, Virginia for the outdoor ceremony and Top of the Town, a rooftop venue that is also in Arlington, for the reception. The ceremony was held in a field by the Netherlands Carillon, a metal structure gifted to the US by the Netherlands after World War II. Evelyn and Kurt exchanged their vows under a gorgeous wedding arch covered in blush roses, white hydrangeas, pink dahlias and yellow wildflowers. Bouquets were equally exquisite with succulents, craspedia, pink coxcombs, pink dahlias, astilbes and bupleurum. Evelyn and Kurt elected to have open seating at the scenic, rooftop reception. Guests were invited to write notes on scrolls of paper and place them in wine bottles. Each bottle was labeled with the anniversary that the newlyweds would read the notes placed in them, which was a fun alternative to a traditional guest book. Evelyn and Kurt also provided a gluten-free cake alongside their buttercream wedding cake so that all their guests could enjoy the dessert. Evelyn and Kurt's beautiful and thoughtful details made their wedding warm and memorable.
