For their Jewish-Indian fusion wedding at a rural North Carolina barn, Lauren Ring (28 and a physician) and Mohan Mallipeddi (32 and also a physician) managed to seamlessly blend traditions from their respective backgrounds. “We wanted to celebrate the best parts of each of our cultures,” Lauren says. “It was important that both of our families felt like their traditions were respected.” Yarmulkes were gifted to male guests prior to the ceremony, while members of Lauren’s wedding party wore vibrant saris that showed off their mehndi. Once they were official, Lauren and Mohan moved the party into the barn, where they danced to “Married Life” from the movie Up. Later, guests took home lemongrass-turmeric-marigold soap handmade by Lauren’s mom—one last family tradition. Lauren’s embellished red and gold lehenga (right) was especially sentimental—it was a gift from Mohan’s family. She donned a beaded sheath for the reception.
